i3 OHS - Final Assessment Task

1. Workplace Signs
  • Design your own Workplace hazard signs, include pictograms or symbols for each of the following:
          a. Hazardous chemicals          b. Goggles
          c. Footwear                           d. Fire equipment

2. Risk Assessment Checklist
  • Assuming you work in a home-based graphic design/pre-press business, make a comprehensive list of the perils facing you while using a computer to do work.
  • Make the list using bubbl.us

 3. Design a Custom Workstation

I have chosen a kidney shaped desk. I love this shape and think it adds a modern design to the room.

The desk on which the printer would sit would be ideally 34” – 37” off the ground. This is the standard measurement for ‘light work’.

The positioning of desk items are placed in three zones. Those that are frequently used are placed in Zone 1 and ones less often touched, placed in the outer Zone 3. If the phone is used a lot, a headset should be used to avoid cradling the phone when taking messages and to avoid holding the phone to the ear for long periods.

The chair has ergonomic points as listed.

It would be great if a view outside a window was available. I would love to look out at the beach while I worked.

I love the sound of running water. To me, it is very calming. I would most definitely sit a small water feature on the desk.

Plants also offer a calming, relaxed feel, so there would be several placed around the room.

Green is my favourite colour. It represents balance and harmony. From a psychology perspective, it is the great balancer of the heart and the emotions, creating equilibrium between the head and the heart. I would add splashes of this in things like my chair and document holder. (A document holder is another feature to help with the relief of neck and eye strain).

4. Role Play - Induction Process for New Employees
  • As a Junior Designer in a Graphic Design or Pre-press Studio, your manager asks you to develop a presentation that can be used by her for two reasons
  1. Part of an induction process for new employees
  2. A way to "refresh" current employees' awareness of the Studio's OH&S practices
